Somi began being a school nurse since 2015 and is at Lawton Elementary and the Seattle Preschool Program. The kids call her 'Nurse Somi.'

Prior to school nursing, Nurse Somi was a charge nurse at Fairfax Behavioral Health on the adolescent unit and just LOVE working with kiddos in every age group.

No matter the demographic, her passion is to encourage and educate individuals about their health so that they feel empowered to achieve anything that they set their mind to. Nurse Somi believes that students must be healthy not only physically but mentally, emotionally, and socially to learn well.

Nurse Somi loves school nursing because she gets to be a part of a holistic approach to well-being and build relationships with students, their families, and the community. Find Nurse Somi with the dog/cat (whatever pet) at social events.

Ms. Bakker has been teaching 2nd grade at Lawton since 2014. She received her M.A. in Education from Antioch University Seattle and her B.A. in Comparative History of Ideas from the University of Washington. She taught third grade in the Kent School District for two years before coming to Lawton.

Ms. Bakker loves playing board games, spending time with her dog Ginger, and eating good food with good friends.

I started working at Viewlands in 2021 and am thrilled to continue on again this year! I feel lucky to work with this amazing community of staff, students and families. As a half-time counselor, I work one-on-one with students who need extra support, run small groups, and teach classroom lessons on problem solving and SEL (social-emotional learning). I serve all students at the school and any student can contact me to check-in as needed. Feel free to contact me by email with any questions or concerns you have about your student!

Hannah Bowley

Hannah has been a Speech Language Pathologist (SLP) in the school setting since 2017. Prior to working in the school setting, Hannah worked as a medical SLP in a pediatric hospital in Portland, Oregon, starting in 2015. In the hospital setting, Hannah provided treatment to kids birth to 18 with pediatric dysphagia, expressive/receptive language disorders, autism spectrum disorder, apraxia, articulation/phonological disorders, and more. Hannah completed her masters degree at Washington State University. She has always had a passion for helping children communicate so they can successfully navigate their world.

When Hannah is not working, you can find her hiking, teaching ski lessons, paddle boarding, playing volleyball, or rock climbing.

Heather Cartner

Heather joined the Lawton community in 2018 supporting special education students as a paraeducator. She completed her teaching certificate in 2021 and was lucky enough to be offered a teaching position on Lawton’s Special Education team.

Teaching is a career change for Heather, she completed a BA in History and a Master of Library and Information Studies in New Zealand, where she grew up, and has previously worked in academic, law, and medical libraries in both New Zealand and Australia. Heather and her family moved to Seattle in 2014 and while volunteering at her kids’ schools Heather reignited an interest in teaching and supporting students.

When not at school, Heather can be found reading, playing computer games, gardening, and spending time with her loud and geeky family.

Kristina has been working in the Lawton front office since 2018. She genuinely enjoys making spreadsheets, cringes when she catches a typo after pressing send, and can still occasionally earn her way to the serving position in four-square.

Kristina joyfully accepts coffee and book recommendations whenever they are offered. When not in the office, she keeps herself busy hiking, traveling, and teaching communication and productivity workshops.

Rich has been teaching at Lawton since 1994. He is a graduate of the University of Washington in Business Administration and Education.

He has two children that have both graduated from Lawton. He enjoys playing sports with friends, playing guitar in a band and going to Husky basketball games.

Elaine Cooper

Elaine has been teaching music since 1989. She started music programs in three schools in West Seattle including a choral program at West Seattle High School. Her school choirs have performed in Japan and at many local and NW venues including on Broadway with the cast of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat at the Paramount.

She loves the positive atmosphere and supportive parents at Lawton. She is very active in leadership with Elementary Music Specialists in the District. She has helped edit assessment curriculum for the Carnegie Hall Link Up program and has certifications in Kodaly and World Music Drumming.

Elaine is married to her wonderfully supportive husband, Raymond, has two grown sons and four grandchildren. She lives in West Seattle where she loves to walk, spend time with grandkids and travel.

Audra has worked in education for fifteen years as a teacher and librarian. She has degrees in English and Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Colorado, and completed the School Library endorsement program at the UW.

In her spare time, Audra loves to read (of course), cook, snowboard, and take trips with her family in their camper van.

Annette Godon joined Lawton Elementary in 2011. Prior to coming to Lawton, she worked at the district office as well as almost every school within the district as a clerical substitute. Annette has two children who have graduated college.  Both attended SPS from Kindergarten through High School.

Ms. Godon has a degree in Marketing and worked within the industry before her kids were born. She is currently very happy with her second career supporting students, family and staff within the educational environment. You might see Ms. Godon and her husband walking through the neighborhood. Make sure to wave!

Renee Hafzalla

Renee joined Lawton in the 2014. Prior to coming to Lawton, Renee interned at Arbor Heights Elementary in West Seattle, and completed her Masters in Teaching from the University of Washington. She received her B.A. in Near Eastern Languages and Civilizations from the University of Washington , where she studied abroad three times in Egypt, Morocco, and China.

As a native born and raised in Seattle, she loves it here…rain and all! Renee enjoys trying out new recipes and restaurants, as well as traveling anywhere that will lend itself to a view of the water.
