Special Education
At Lawton, students who receive special education services are supported through differentiated instruction from their general education teachers using an inclusion model. Some students may also have limited pull-out services for targeted skill instruction. Lawton offers both a Resource Program and an Extended Resource Program.
Resource Program
Students in the Resource Program receive specially designed instruction (SDI) to address mild to moderate differences in their academic and social skills needs. The instruction is personalized based on each student’s Individualized Education Program (IEP). These students spend most of their time in general education classes with additional support as needed. Services are provided in different settings, depending on the student’s IEP.
Extended Resource Program
Students in the Extended Resource Program have more intensive service needs. They receive specially designed instruction (SDI) to address their moderate to intensive academic and functional needs. Like the Resource Program, instruction is based on each student’s IEP. These students spend most of their time in general education classes but also receive specialized support, including smaller group instruction or interventions, for part of the day. Services are provided in various settings, depending on the student’s IEP.
