School Day Leadership and Learning Extensions
Arts
Lawton offers arts programs that are funded by the PTA and the City of Seattle Creative Advantage grant program. Art instruction is woven into the curriculum by Lawton teachers, and students also learn from PTA art docents, an artist-in-residence, visiting authors, assemblies, workshops, and other school events.
Student Clubs
At Lawton, 4th and 5th grade students have the opportunity to choose to participate in a club on Wednesdays after our WAVE assembly. Club choices in the past include: Lawton Student Union (ASB), Library Leaders, Capoeira, Student Newspaper, Choir, Sports Electives, Book to Movie, and LegoRobotics.
Safety Patrol
Teams of students arrive early before school to patrol our crosswalks at 27th and Elmore, assist walkers in safely crossing the neighboring streets, and greet car drop off students in the drop off line. Patrol Students are in 5th grade, demonstrate responsibility and leadership, and are willing to follow directions to ensure safety for students and families. Each team has an adult supervisor for the intersection; please follow the directions of all students and adults at this intersection at drop off.
Instrumental Music
Lawton offers instrumental music to 4th and 5th graders on Monday afternoons. There a choices of instruments in the string, brass, and woodwind families. Instruction takes place during the school day.
